Department of Genetics and Developmental Biology
The Department of Genetics and Developmental Biology was founded in 2003 and consists of four subjects: Genetics, Developmental Biology, Physiology and Neurobiology. There are three doctor's degree authorization centers and four master's degree authorization centers. About forty postgraduate students and twenty doctoral students are pursuing their degrees in the department.
In recent years, teaching and scientific research capabilities have been strengthened with substantial support from the university and the school. With the establishment of the Institute of Biomedical Research, the Institute of Genetic Resources and three Key Laboratories of Beijing Normal University (Plant Development Physiology, Molecular Biology and Neurology and Brain Development, and Molecular Cytogenetic and Crop Breeding ), the department now functions as a base for technological innovation and for high-level talent training. At present, the department is responsible for around ten theoretical and experimental courses for undergraduate students and more than ten courses for graduate students. During the past five years, 69 articles have been published in SCI and EI (The Engineering Index). One hundred nine articles have been published in national core periodicals. Meanwhile, fifteen academic monographs, translated works and textbooks have been published. Eleven national invention patents have been authorized.
