Life Sciences Branch Library

The Life Sciences Branch Library, whose predecessor is the Reference Room of the Department of Biology, has a history of 100 years. In the system reform in 2002, the Reference Room was merged into the school library as the Reference Room of Life Sciences of Beijing Normal University Library. Under the joint efforts of the library and the School, a branch library of the College of Life Sciences was established in October 2004.

The Life Sciences Branch Library currently has a collection of more than 30,000 copies in different languages such as Chinese, English, and Japanese and so on. There are more than 20,000 Chinese books as well as foreign books, more than 500 periodicals in Chinese and English, thousands of copies of Master and PhD dissertations of the College of Life Sciences after 1989 and books purchased by the School. The branch library also purchased Chinese Biological Abstracts Database (CBA CD-ROM) and a dozen network databases.

The collections of books and journals all start from the curriculum of the department and institute, showing a strong expertise and pertinence. The branch especially focuses on the construction of library materials for key disciplines. Now the collection system provides a wealth of knowledge resources for teachers to conduct teaching and research as well as high-level talent training.
The Life Sciences Branch Library, driven by the wave of reform, and under the leadership of the library and the College of Life Sciences, is accelerating the integration and construction of library resources to go forward to be a branch of digitalization and integration.
