Wang Kunren
Wang Kunren, (April 23, 1912- September 18, 1993), was physiologist and cell biologist and came from Xiuning, Anhui province. He graduated from the department of biology in Beijing Normal University in 1934, got his master’s degree from the medical college of the University of Illinois in the US in 1949. He then worked as professor in the department of biology in BNU. He found that after stimulating the proximal end of dog’s pneumogastric nerve, there was a change in the leaf cell behind the pituitary, which proved the particular positive response of the ATP enzyme inside the parietal cell of gastric mucosa was found by the leaf cell behind the pituitary for its secretary product and the relationship between this response and the oxyntic cell. He also found, with collaborators, that gammaglobulin has a preventative effect for the intoxicating phenomenon of bandicoot which had been injected with cc14. Moreover, he found that Chinese herbal medicine and extractive of Polyporus umbellatus have an inhibiting effect on the multiplication of cancer cells in the clinical prescriptions of tumors and cancer. He proved the relationship between the increase of the cAMP level inside the cells and the inhibition of cAMP PDE inside the cytoplasm. He found the spread of canaliculus and the difference between spread of canaliculus inside normal cells and in tumor cells during the interphase of the cell cycle and the mitotic cycle of normal cells and tumor cells. Since the 1980s, he has developed basic theoretical research on cancerization and tumor cell biology. In 1980, he was elected as an academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences.
