Wu Baoling
Ms. Wu is a marine biologist, with Man nationality. She was from Suizhong, Fengtian (current Liaoning Province). In 1949, she graduated from the department of biology in Beijing Normal University. From 1957 to 1961, she went to learn at the Institute of Zoology of the USSR Academy of Sciences. She served successively as the research assistant, associate researcher, and researcher at the Institute of Oceanology, Chinese Academy of Sciences and deputy director of The First Institute of Oceanography, SOA, and the first and second director of the Chinese Society of Oceanography. Since 1957, she has studied the polychaete oceanic annelids systematically, from the sides of floristic taxonomy, morphology, ecology, reproduction, living history, geographical spread, fossil tube and phylogenies. In 1964, she first studied pollution ecology in China, reported the contamination index of organics in China—capitellid and the further taxonomy of its kind. She successively presided over the evaluation of the environmental quality and self-cleaning ability of Bohai Sea Gulf and the study on the pollution law and environmental quality of the area of Beijing, Tianjin and Bohai Sea Gulf. She has published papers such as “The Primary Report of the Studies on the Polychaete Annelids in Chinese Fresh Water and Sea Water,” “The Differentiation of the Subspecies of Capitellid and Their Eco-characteristics,” and “The Subclasses of the Polychaete Mobile Animals in the Yellow Sea.”
