Zhang Zongbing
Mr. Zhan came from Hangzhou, Zhejiang province. He taught as part-time professor in the department of biology at BNU from 1949 to 1953. He was a famous insect ecologist. He got his bachelor’s degree from Yanjing University in 1934, master’s degree from the graduate school in 1936, and doctoral degree from Cornell University in 1938. He taught as a lecturer, associate professor, and professor after coming back from the US. In 1949, he worked as the professor in the department of biology at Peking University, and part-time researcher in toxicity laboratory of the Institute of Insects at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, part-time consultant for the pesticide society and consultant professor of Zhejiang Agriculture University. He published over 180 papers and more than 20 books, like “Insect Toxicity” (1958 and 1964), “The New Development in the Field of Insect Toxicity” (1982), “The Molecular Toxicology of Pesticides” (1987), “Environment al Toxicology of Pesticides” (China Agriculture Press, 1989), “Toxicity Test of the Pesticide” (Science Press, 1988) and so on. His main research result “The Neurotoxin Study of Insects” achieved the second prize of the National Education Department Scientific and Technological Development Award in 1988. In 1981, he was the main teacher of the keynote lectures focusing on general biology of the central television university, and helped edit the text book “General Biology Casebook” (Peking University Press, 1981)
